About &Tradition

Since its inception in Copenhagen in 2010, &Tradition has established itself as a leading figure in Scandinavian design, skilfully combining the richness of its Nordic heritage with a bold contemporary vision. Its timeless yet innovative furniture, lighting and accessories appeal to a global audience, from minimalist design enthusiasts to interior architects.

Danish origins, global ambition

Founded by Martin Kornbek Hansen, &Tradition was born in the cradle of Danish design, Copenhagen, where the legacy of Arne Jacobsen and Hans J. Wegner still lives on. From the outset, the brand has had a clear mission: to preserve Nordic craftsmanship while projecting it into the future. Its name, &Tradition, symbolises this duality – a bridge between past and present, between roots and innovation.

The brand is also committed to a responsible approach, favouring sustainable materials and environmentally friendly production processes. This ethical foundation, combined with a refined aesthetic, has earned it rapid recognition far beyond Denmark's borders.

Minimalism and boldness

&Tradition's design draws on Scandinavian fundamentals: simplicity, functionality and a natural affinity with materials such as wood, leather and glass. Its creations, often characterised by clean lines and understated colours, are inspired by Nordic landscapes – fjords, forests and soft light. However, the brand does not simply reproduce a formula. It dares to add bold touches, such as the vibrant colours of Verner Panton's FlowerPot lamp or the organic shapes of Viggo Boesen's Little Petra armchair.

This ability to balance tradition and modernity is reflected in its catalogue, which combines reissues of historic pieces with contemporary creations. &Tradition also looks beyond Denmark, collaborating with international talents such as Jaime Hayon and Samuel Wilkinson to enrich its repertoire of global influences.

Designers at the Heart of the Project

&Tradition's success is based on its collaborations with exceptional designers, whether they are historical figures or contemporary voices. Among the icons of the past, Verner Panton shines with his FlowerPot lamp, a symbol of the 1960s that is still relevant today. Viggo Boesen, with the Little Petra armchair, embodies a soft and welcoming modernism. Arne Jacobsen, with the Bellevue lamp, and the duo Hvidt & Mølgaard, with the X chair, complete this prestigious heritage.

On the contemporary side, Jaime Hayon brings a playful touch with the Formakami lamp, inspired by Asian lanterns. Sami Kallio, master of wood, has designed the elegant and sturdy In Between chair. Space Copenhagen, with the Fly collection and the Blown lamp, brings understated sophistication. These varied yet coherent collaborations make &Tradition a melting pot of creativity.

A catalogue of icons and innovations

The &Tradition catalogue covers furniture, lighting and accessories, each piece designed to last. The Little Petra armchair, with its enveloping curves, invites you to curl up and relax. The In Between chair combines lightness and strength, perfect for a modern dining room. The Mayor sofa, designed by Arne Jacobsen and Flemming Lassen, evokes the institutional elegance of the 1940s.

The lighting fixtures are stars in their own right. The FlowerPot, available as a pendant, table lamp or portable lamp, remains a bestseller. Hayon's Formakami, made of rice paper, diffuses a poetic light. Wilkinson's Blown, with its textured glass, plays with reflections. Accessories such as The Moor rug add a luxurious finishing touch.

Each product is carefully crafted using premium materials and traditional techniques. This commitment guarantees pieces that stand the test of time, both in terms of style and quality.

Global Reach, Lasting Impact

Present in design boutiques around the world, &Tradition furnishes private residences as well as hotels, restaurants and offices. Its collaboration with HAY in 2014 strengthened its visibility while allowing it to remain true to its vision. By reissuing classics and innovating, the brand is helping to redefine Scandinavian design, making it accessible and relevant for today.

Its ecological commitment – choosing sustainable materials and using responsible production methods – meets the expectations of an environmentally conscious public. &Tradition doesn't just create objects; it tells a story, that of a design that respects the past while shaping the future.
