The lampshades are made entirely of wood, which is always FSC® or PEFC certified Finnish birch plywood. Modern water cutting technology allows you to create geometric parts without dark edges, as is the case with a laser cutter. The composition of the parts allows lighting fixtures to be manufactured without glue or screws – only in wood. Pilke is a combination of Finnish craft techniques and state-of-the-art computer geometry.
Pilkes was founded in 2010 by Tuula Hocksell and Leena Liedenpohja. Over the years, five amazing product series have been created, designed by Tuukka Halonen, Harri Koskinen, Janne Uusi-Autti and Susan Elo.
Since autumn 2021, Pilke Lights has been part of the Swedish design company Maze Interior, which shares the same values. With the production philosophy "Slow production", where local production, responsible selection of recycled and natural materials and avoidance of air freight are some of the key aspects.
