Lyfa, originally called Kjøbenhavns Lampe, was founded in 1903. Since then, the company has focused on providing lighting for all occasions in everyday life ("Lyspunkter i tilværelsen"). Today Lyfa is known for its production of high quality lighting fixtures incorporating new technologies and materials.Â
Lyfa has won numerous international design awards since the 1930s, including the gold medal at the 1929 World's Fair in Barcelona, and again in 1935 in Brussels. In the 1950s, LYFA collaborated with prominent Danish architects and designers such as Piet Hein, Finn Juhl and, most importantly, Bent Karlby.Â
Bent Karlby and Lyfa's partnership, which began in the 1940s, lasted more than three decades. Known for his soft lights, organic shapes and distinctive halos of light, Karby explored many directions during his career, from organic and playful forms to pure geometric shapes such as the cone, cylinder and arc. Today he is considered one of Denmark's most productive and versatile lighting designers.Â
