asymmetrical sofa

design Rikke Frost, 2021

By its shape, the Sideways asymmetrical sofa is an invitation to conversation. Designed by Danish designer Rikke Frost, the Sideways sofa combines classic materials, like wood and paper cord, with a modern form, which serves a clear purpose.

Carl Hansen & Søn has over 110 years of experience in craftsmanship. Rikke Frost brings a modern idiom. It took him just three weeks to design the sofa prototype for Danmarks Radio's 'Denmark's Next Classic' TV show, where the sofa won first place in its category. The details and design were then refined – the upholstery, backrest and solid wood legs. In the end, form and function come together to produce a beautifully balanced sofa.

The steam-curved back and the organically shaped seat of the Sideways sofa form two seats that place the parts opposite each other, favoring the exchange. Open and inviting, the low back is made of solid wood and woven paper cord giving it a light and elegant look. The fabric-covered seat and back ensure optimal comfort.

Rikke Frost

Danish designer Rikke Frost has always been curious about the combination of different craft traditions and types of materials, a fact clearly reflected in her design portfolio where traditional and contemporary design is expressed in sofas, tables, chairs and sofas. lamps with an organic idiom.

This is true in the Sideways Sofa, which is Rikke Frost's first collaboration with Carl Hansen & Son. Here she blends classic materials such as woven paper cord and wood into a modern and functional design.
