Unikko 60th Anniversary

In 2024, we celebrate the 60th anniversary of Unikko, one of the most recognized Marimekko print designs in the world. Unikko, born from the creative mind of Maija Isola in 1964, has transcended borders to become an international icon. 

It all began with the vision of Marimekko founder Armi Ratia. She believed that the true essence of real flowers couldn't be faithfully captured in print, which is why floral prints were excluded from Marimekko collections. Maija Isola designed Unikko to be an abstraction of a flower rather than a photorealistic rendition. It emerged as part of a broader series of floral abstractions. Today, Unikko stands as a powerful emblem of joy and creativity, seamlessly integrated into Marimekko's design identity.
