Unikko collection / 3

Unikko was created by Maija Isola in 1964 and has since become an international icon of print design. The founder of Marimekko, Armi Ratia, believed that it was not possible to faithfully capture the true essence of real flowers in print, which is why floral prints were earlier excluded from Marimekko collections. 

So, Maija Isola designed Unikko to be an abstraction of a flower rather than a photorealistic rendition. Today, Unikko is a powerful emblem of joy and creativity, seamlessly integrated into Marimekko´s design identity.

organic cotton

 The Koski skirt is made of organic cotton with a slim, A-line fit and the Unikko pattern. 

The skirt has a concealed zipper in the back seam, and a kangaroo pocket and panel seams in the front.

 The Lampi tunic is made of organic cotton poplin and it has a relaxed, straight fit. The tunic features the Unikko pattern and it has a shirt collar, a button closure, and side seam pockets. 

The loose, elbow-length sleeves are finished with a turned stitched hem. There is a yoke seam with pleats in the back.

firm organic cotton

 The Sumu overshirt is made of firm organic cotton with an oversized, straight fit. 

The overshirt is printed in the Unikko pattern and it has a pointed collar, a snap button closure, and large patch pockets in the front. The sleeves are finished with a turned stitched hem.

The Kukkein overall is made of firm organic cotton and it has a relaxed, straight fit, and it is printed in the Unikko pattern. 

The overall has a pointed collar, a snap button closure, chest pockets, and wide, elbow-length sleeves. 

There are pockets in the side seams, and in the back a yoke seam as well as an elastic waistband and patch pockets.

The Kukkein overall is made of firm organic cotton and it has a relaxed, straight fit, and it is printed in the Unikko pattern. The overall has a pointed collar, a snap button closure, chest pockets, and wide, elbow-length sleeves.
