Howard Lighting Collection Space Copenhagen, 2021

A tribute to New York City – The Danish duo from Space Copenhagen were commissioned to design the interior of the 221-room hotel Howard 11 in Manhattan's SoHo neighborhood. The owners wanted to create bespoke lighting that would not only withstand the heavy traffic of a hotel environment, but also develop a beautiful patina over time.

The Howard lighting collection is a celebration of New York's materiality seen through Scandinavian eyes. Named after the hotel, the collection of lamps created Space Copenhagen refers to the city’s urban grammar, dominated by dark metals and industrial aesthetics.

The Howard collection is a tribute paid by Space Copenhagen to the American world city.Β

Space Copenhagen

Established in 2005 by Signe Bindslev Henriksen and Peter Bundgaard RΓΌtzou, Space Copenhagen is a design studio that works across multiple disciplines, from furniture, lighting and refined objects to art installations, art direction and interior design for private homes, hotels and restaurants all over the world.

"We call our approach Poetic Modernism."

The ambition is to forge new paths by balancing opposites β€” classic and modern, industrial and organic, sculptural and minimal, light and shade. Duality and contrast. Curiosity as a fundamental human condition.

The studio’s intuitive approach embodies designs that are distinctively shaped by the given circumstances, functional needs, and a fundamental interest in human behavior. It is a sense of and belief in slow aesthetic that centers around quality and longevity.

Space Copenhagen has created lauded furniture pieces for some of the world’s leading manufacturers such as GUBI, Stellar Works, Fredericia Furniture, &Tradition and Mater. In addition, Space Copenhagen continuously substantiates their roster of high-end interiors at an international level, following, among others, their award-winning design for 11 Howard hotel in New York, The Stratford opening in London Spring 2019, along with already acclaimed destination restaurants Geranium and the first Noma in Copenhagen.Β
