The Skynest pendant was commissioned by Flos from designer Marcel Wanders, already the author of the popular Skygarden series, with strict specifications: to produce a large luminaire using the latest advances in LED technology, which are not only repairable, but also easily repairable on site in order to avoid round trips to the manufacturer and limit the environmental impact.
The result is a large dome composed of clipped LED strips, associated with a geometric structure made of woven fiber and obtained from recycled polyester. Each strip is fed by special micro-connectors located at the top of the dome covered with a two-tone mesh. The inner side is white to maximize light emission.
The device is equipped with an integrated system at the top of the dome that allows its balance to be adjusted, making it perfectly stable. The bottom of the dome is completed with an aluminum ring that holds the structure together with a simple click system. The product is assembled without glue and can be easily disassembled in case of repair or replacement.
The plastic rosette painted in the same color as the lamp is equipped with integrated electronics that allow the use of different dimming systems (0-10V / 1-10V / DALI / PUSH).

Marcel Wanders
Born in the Netherlands in 1963, iconoclastic designer Marcel Wanders has made humor and originality the foundation of his work. The success of Marcel Wanders started with his iconic Knotted Chair, made for Droog Design in 1996. Today, he is omnipresent and works as a designer for the most important European design companies such as B & B Italia, Bisazza, Poliform, Moroso, Flos, Boffi, Cappellini, Droog Design and Moooi of which he is also the artistic director and co-owner.
He became known in the 90s in the famous designer collective Droog Design. The studio quickly became a reference in the world of design thanks to a production described by some as insolent but finding always more enthusiastic buyers. However, Wanders' projects are a bit too original for market publishers at that time.
In order to maintain his independence from the manufacturers, Marcel Wanders founded his own publishing house in 2001: Moooi, which means "beautiful" in Dutch. Marcel Wanders' whimsical, offbeat and provocative style expresses itself fully in the Moooi collection.
The style of Wanders is explosive and inimitable. The designer does not hesitate to leave the often minimalist paths of current design by proposing over the top and poetic creations. The creations of Marcel Wanders are exhibited in the most prestigious museums including the MoMA in New York.
