The Carimate armchair was designed by Magistretti in 1959 for the Carimate golf club in Italy. It has now been reissued in two versions - untreated beech and black-painted ash - whose matt finish highlights the structure and fibres of the wood.
The seat is made from paper rope, which is slightly more rustic than the halyard used in the original Carimate restaurant version.
"Carimate is an armchair with a lot of personality. Vico Magistretti has turned this design into a modern classic that works just as well on its own as it does around a dining table", says Christian Andresen, Head of Design at Fritz Hansen.

Born into a family of renowned Milanese architects, Italian designer Vico Magistretti was strict in his philosophy: no excuse for bad design.
Nicknamed one of the founding fathers of Italian design, he was widely celebrated for his experimental yet remarkably harmonious work, which ranged from high-quality furnishings to elaborate architectural facades.
