design Vico Magistretti, 1959
The armchair honours Vico Magistretti who designed the original Carimate Armchair in 1959 for the golf club Carimate, in Italy. The details make this anniversary edition by Fritz Hansen truly special.
The flag line seat is inspired by the original straw seat, honouring the original aesthetic, without risking the organic decay associated with natural straw. Fritz Hansen has used European flax for the flag line – 110 meters are woven by hand to create the beautiful, organic seat.
Small changes to the seat height and backrest design have been made for comfort. And the chair is available in red and black lacquer to honour earlier versions of the design. Every chair is individually numbered for authenticity and longevity. A brass plaque under each seat marks its unique number.

Born into a family of renowned Milanese architects, Italian designer Vico Magistretti was strict in his philosophy: no excuse for bad design.
Nicknamed one of the founding fathers of Italian design, he was widely celebrated for his experimental yet remarkably harmonious work, which ranged from high-quality furnishings to elaborate architectural facades.
