Poul Kjærholm

Deeply rooted in Danish tradition, Poul Kjærholm's work is inspired by various European artistic movements. His work is internationally renowned and has been awarded numerous prizes. Kjærholm wanted to create harmony between material and form. This harmony is remarkably reflected through its designs. Beginning his career as an apprentice for cabinetmaker Gronbech, Poul Kjærholm then studied at the Danish School of Arts and Crafts in Copenhagen. After his studies, he worked for Ejvind Kold Christensen and Fritz Hansen. From the beginning of his career, Kjærholm expressed a strong interest in the use of alternative materials such as steel. He considered steel to be a natural material, just like wood and leather, and often used it for the structures of his most iconic pieces.
