Johan Van Hengel is a Dutch designer based in Rotterdam. Coming from a technical background in industrial design, he worked on both consumer electronics and furniture before starting his own studio in 2013, focusing on furniture, lighting and everyday accessories.

"I have an approach based on logic and investigation, driven by the desire to enrich everyday objects with new layers of sophistication, individuality and meaning. With a focus on function, materiality and technique, I try to invest everyday forms and objects with a subtle element of surprise."

On Scandinavian design: "For me, it is a modern interpretation of a deeply rooted Scandinavian design philosophy, with a strong emphasis on materials, function and simplicity. Scandinavian design aims to create useful products for everyday life with sustainable aesthetics and honest expressions that are consciously designed and produced.
