Encircle is a sculptural furnishing textile with a tactile and meticulous expression. It explores the delicate irregularities of natural surfaces and is inspired by the crafts and landscapes of Grand-Bassam, Ivory Coast.
Both complex and simple, Encircle combines a naturally irregular looped yarn with a plain dyed ground yarn. This construction gives the upholstery fabric a meticulous appearance: irregular and intricate circles seem to emerge from its surface. Like leaves, each circle has an individual shape.
Encircle is also characterised by a pronounced softness and an elegant, rounded expression. It combines particularly well with Interlace, a curtain textile designed by Karin An Rijlaarsdam, as well as with many of the woollen designs in the Kvadrat collection.

"I am obsessed with texture. Exploring a soft three-dimensional texture with a handmade feel for a textile design, or a smooth, ultra-matt, natural finish for a lighting fixture, excites me. Texture defines the skin that gives life to the object, it is generous and represents its uniqueness and personality." - Karin An Rijlaarsdam Karin An Rijlaarsdam is creative director and founder of CLOUD-9 design - a studio focused on creating sustainable designs that have a positive impact on the environment and/or society. It is located in the Ivory Coast. She works with leading design brands worldwide, such as Apple, Beats by Dr Dre, Capellini and Kvadrat.
