PP501/PP503 - THE CHAIR

Design Hans Wegner, 1949.

"The Round One", as Hans J. Wegner was used to call it, is probably the Hans Wegner's furniture most famous in the world.

Less than a year after its creation, the American magazine Interiors devoted it a special issue, which marked the beginning of the international carrier of Hans Wegner. The latter, with his usual modesty, said: "This chair could have been created one hundred years ago - nothing new".

PP503 chair, designed one year latter, differs from the PP501 by its upholstered seat. John Kennedy, who suffered back, adopted it for his televised debate with Nixon in 1960, contributing to the celebrity of the chair which was then renamed The Chair and joined permanently the White House.
