Inspired by the fluidity of Japanese kimono sleeves (the name "Tamoto" means "sleeve" in Japanese), these beds transform a simple sleeping area into a comfortable bed-sofa hybrid, suited to modern multitasking. Designed for easy assembly (flat-pack), they incorporate recyclable materials and an intuitive design, in line with HAY's philosophy: accessible, contemporary, and eco-friendly furniture.
The Tamoto bed is distinguished by its draped headboard made of folded fabric, reminiscent of the soft drape of a kimono, contrasting with a sturdy steel tube frame. This combination creates a contemporary and welcoming silhouette, where the padded headboard (20 mm foam) serves as a backrest for reading, working, or watching TV. The raised frame frees up space underneath for storage, and the birch plywood slats (not included, but recommended) ensure optimal ventilation. The design is minimalist yet expressive, with a removable headboard cover for easy maintenance. Versatile, Tamoto isn't just for sleeping: it serves as a base for reading, working, or relaxing, like a sofa bed. Ideal for bedrooms, studios, or multifunctional spaces, it pairs well with standard mattresses (not included).

The padded headboard provides soft support for daytime activities, while the sturdy frame ensures nighttime stability. This is a bed "for modern living," where sleep rhymes with active relaxation. Intuitive flat-pack, with a removable, washable cover, for quick assembly (approximately 30 minutes). Recyclable materials reduce the environmental impact of transport. The kimono inspiration brings a poetic and oriental touch, contrasting with the industrial frame for a balanced and timeless look. Durable steel frame and breathable fabrics for increased longevity. HAY recommends standard slats and mattresses for optimal ventilation. Suitable for small or large spaces, with a raised height for storage underneath, ideal for urban studios.

Designed by Stockholm-based American designer Shane Schneck, known for his playful pieces (like Bowler and Butler for HAY), the Tamoto bed reflects his ethos: simple yet innovative objects, with a touch of surprise (the kimono drape). Launched in 2022, it is part of HAY's collection of multifunctional furniture, influenced by modern nomadic living. HAY, founded in 2002 by Mette and Rolf Hay, aims to make design accessible and sustainable, and Tamoto is a perfect example: flat-pack, recyclable, and versatile.
