The Raami collection, designed by Jasper Morrison for Iittala and launched in 2019, embodies a minimalist and functional approach to Nordic design, focused on creating a convivial atmosphere at the table. Raami, which means “frame” in Finnish, aims to frame shared moments, from breakfast to dinner, by fostering a warm, relaxed atmosphere.

Morrison, a British designer born in 1959 and a major figure in contemporary design, applies his concept of the “super normal” here: simple objects, stripped of all superfluity, but carefully thought out down to the smallest detail to fit harmoniously into everyday life.

The collection includes pieces in ceramic, glass and wood, all designed to function individually yet form a cohesive whole, like a family where each element brings its own personality. Items include plates, bowls, mugs, water glasses, stemware for red wine, white wine, aperitif and sparkling wine, a carafe, candle holders and oak serving trays. The white vitroporcelain ceramics highlight the colors of the food thanks to their gently curved edges, while the fluted glasses on the inside add a touch of character and surprise to the touch. The photophores, with their ribbed texture, create a beautiful play of light, enhancing the ambience.

Morrison, known for his rejection of uniform dinnerware sets, designed Raami to encourage varied combinations, mixing modern and antique pieces to break with formality and create a relaxed atmosphere. This approach reflects his belief that objects influence not only aesthetics, but also behavior at the table, fostering authentic moments of sharing.

The collection has been hailed for its balance between simplicity and refinement, with dedicated exhibitions, such as the one at Stockholm Design Week 2019.

Designer

Jasper Morrison

Jasper Morrison, known for thinking outside the box, is one of the most successful industrial designers of the past few decades.

With his colleague Naoto Fukasawa, he defined the term “super normal” which, in his opinion, designates what “good design” should be. He strives to create good examples of sober, useful and responsible design in his work.

Morrison has developed several projects in cooperation with Vitra, including the All Plastic Chair, the Soft Modular Sofa and the HAL seating range. His designs are represented in the Museum of Modern Art in New York and in other prominent museum collections around the world.

Iittala: Finnish design defined by purity, functionality and the poetry of glass

A historic icon of Nordic design

Founded in 1881, Iittala is one of Finland most iconic design brands. Originally dedicated to blown glass, it soon became a cornerstone of Scandinavian design through its pursuit of simplicity, functionality and timeless beauty. Iittala represents a Nordic aesthetic built on honesty and clarity.

A legacy shaped by visionary designers

Iittala owes much of its fame to major designers such as Alvar Aalto, Kaj Franck and Tapio Wirkkala. Their creations, now global icons, express the essence of Finnish modernism through organic shapes, minimalism and deep respect for materials. The brand continues to reissue these masterpieces while collaborating with contemporary designers.

Mastery of blown glass and refined Nordic materials

Iittala craftsmanship is rooted in exceptional expertise in blown glass. Every vase, bowl or decorative object is made with precision in its Finnish workshops. The brand also works with ceramic, stainless steel and other materials, always prioritising durability, purity and long lasting quality.

A collection combining beauty and everyday functionality

Iittala offers a complete range: glassware, vases, tableware, decorative objects and iconic Finnish design pieces. Lines are clean, colours refined and forms built to last. Each item is conceived to be both beautiful and useful, following the core principles of Scandinavian design.

Timeless series that span generations

The Aalto collection, the Teema series, Kartio glassware and Ruutu vases are among the most celebrated pieces. These designs have become international symbols of Nordic aesthetics, blending simplicity and expressive form.

Conclusion: Finnish glass art shaped by tradition and modernity

Iittala expresses a pure and poetic vision of design, where craftsmanship, simplicity and durability come together. Choosing Iittala means bringing Nordic authenticity and timeless beauty into everyday life.
