History: Launched in 2022 by French designer Samy Rio for Petite Friture, the Quasar portable lamp is a bold creation born of a collaboration with Amélie du Passage, the brand's founder. Samy Rio, winner of the Design Parade 2015 Grand Prix, spent two years perfecting this lamp, blending craftsmanship and industrial innovation to meet Petite Friture's sustainable design ambitions.
Concept: Inspired by quasars, the most luminous stars in the universe, Quasar embodies a pure, circular aesthetic. Conceived as a nomadic lamp, it combines functionality and elegance, offering powerful, adjustable light for indoor and outdoor use. Rio wanted to create an object that was both technical and playful, capable of adapting to a variety of contexts while respecting the principles of sustainability.
Materials: Body in anodized aluminum (20% recycled and recyclable), base in ABS (25% recycled), rope in UV-resistant polyester. Equipped with integrated LED source (5V, 2A, max 7.5W, 200 lumens input, 150 lumens output). Includes 1 m USB-C cable for recharging.
Care: Clean with a soft, slightly damp cloth; avoid aggressive detergents. Rechargeable lithium battery providing 6 h at 100%, 9 h at 50%, 12 h at 25% intensity; full recharge in 4h30. IP54 certification (resistant to dust and water splashes). Dismountable components for optimal recycling.
Design: Quasar captivates with its sleek circular silhouette, featuring a flat anodized aluminum disk resting on a compact cylindrical base. The two-tone rope attached to the top allows it to be hung or carried, adding a playful touch. Available in five colors (natural aluminum, black, olive green, emerald green, sienna), it offers a vibrant, contemporary palette. The light, adjustable in three temperatures (2200K, 3000K, 4000K) and three intensities, creates a variety of moods, from cosy warm white to functional cool white.
Adaptability: Measuring H26 x Ø17 cm (base Ø7 cm, weight 1.3 kg), Quasar is versatile: placed on a desk or bedside table, or suspended from an outdoor pergola. Its IP54 certification makes it ideal for terraces, patios or gardens, complementing Petite Friture's outdoor furniture collections such as Week-end or Fromme.
Recognition: Quasar is part of the legacy of Petite Friture, whose creations are exhibited at MoMA and the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. Rio, recognized for its work on sustainability, has won awards at the Villa Noailles and collaborated with institutions such as the Manufacture de Sèvres.
Manufacturing: Made in Europe from recycled materials, Quasar reflects Petite Friture's commitment to responsible production. Anodized aluminum and recycled ABS, combined with a dismountable design, facilitate recycling, while short-circuit production supports the local economy.
Ethical: Featuring an energy-efficient LED and sustainable materials, Quasar minimizes its environmental impact. The polyester rope is UV-resistant, guaranteeing longevity outdoors. Rio's approach, rooted in sustainability, aligns with Petite Friture's vision of creating objects that are both beautiful and ethical.
