Origin and inspiration

The MbE mirror draws its inspiration from the mirrors used in the hat department of La Samaritaine, an iconic Parisian department store. Originally, these mirrors were mounted vertically on a wooden support. Frédéric Winkler, one of the founders of DCW Éditions, revisited this concept by reversing the orientation of the mirror and integrating elements evocative of plumbing, such as clamps, for a distinctive industrial look. This design has evolved to become more refined, while retaining its raw, original character.

Key features

Design: The MbE mirror is distinguished by its circular shape and minimalist structure. A long metal rod (or “mast”) serves as a support, fixed to the wall or suspended, offering an industrial yet sophisticated look. It sometimes evokes a ship's porthole, reinforcing its bold character.

Functionality: The mirror pivots and swivels, allowing flexible adjustment for practical use. It can be wall-mounted with two fixing points or, in some versions, suspended from the ceiling. The user can choose to orient it head-up or head-down, offering installation versatility.

Uses and applications

Industrial aesthetics: With its clean lines and metallic design, MbE fits perfectly into modern, industrial or contemporary interiors. It is particularly suited to:

- Bathrooms, where it complements fixtures such as Lampe Gras No304 or In The Tube by DCW Éditions.

- Entrances, hallways or living spaces, where it can serve as a decorative piece above a dressing table or cabinet.

- Bedrooms, for a functional and stylish accent.

Decorative versatility: The MbE mirror transcends simple utility to become a functional work of art, combining beauty and practicality. Its expressive design makes it a focal point in any room.

Creation context

Initially used as a scenographic element to showcase DCW Éditions bathroom fixtures (such as the Lampe Gras No304 or In The Tube) at trade shows, the MbE mirror aroused keen public interest. In response to demand, DCW Éditions added it to its catalog. The name “My Best Enemy” reflects a playful duality: the mirror is both an ally in preparation and an “enemy” who reveals without concession. This touch of humor adds character to the object.

Highlights

Unique aesthetics: Its industrial design, inspired by historical heritage, makes it both timeless and modern.

Functionality: Adjustable orientation and installation (high or low) make it practical and adaptable.

Quality: Made from top-of-the-range materials (brass, nickel, steel), it guarantees durability and elegance.

Versatility: Suitable for a variety of spaces, from bathrooms and living areas to professional environments such as boutiques and hotels.
