Mynt redefines dynamic seating

The key feature is the patented mechanism which tilts forwards or backwards depending on the user's position, activated by the weight of the body, with the seat tilting independently of the backrest. The resistance to movement automatically adjusts to the weight of the user, who only has to adjust the seat height.

Mynt is universal

Mynt defies all conventional categorization by combining a lightweight design with the ergonomics and dynamism of an office chair. It thus brings a new way of sitting in any type of environment: versatile, it is ideal for offices and shared workspaces (coworking), its minimalist design also integrates with the dining table and adds an aesthetic touch.

Mynt is future-proof

Mynt is designed to last, with parts that can be replaced individually: the covering, the skates and the castors can be removed and replaced by the users themselves, while the seat and backrest in recycled plastic or wood can be replaced by qualified teams. Mynt is made from 86% recycled materials and is 99% recyclable at the end of its life cycle. The padded seat is made of V-Foam, the world's first polyurethane foam that can be recycled on a large scale, developed by Vitra in collaboration with BASF.

Removable covers

Seat and back cushions with fabric covers are available. Thanks to zippers, the covers can be easily removed for cleaning or replacement. Mynt thus retains its original appearance and easily adapts to new needs.

Seat height

The Mynt mechanism spontaneously adjusts its level of support to the weight of the user. Only the seat height requires manual adjustment: ideally, the user's knees should form a 90° angle. This position allows the synchronous mechanism to function optimally and also improves blood circulation in the legs.

Restricted mode to limit movement

The functions of the backrest tilt mechanism and the forward tilt of Mynt can be restricted in order to limit the range of motion. To encourage a healthy and dynamic sitting position, the restricted mode should be deactivated. Working with a backrest locked in an upright position should be limited to temporary phases.

FAQ

What is special about the seat mechanism of the Mynt universal chair by Vitra?

The patented mechanism of the Mynt universal chair is activated by the weight of the body. The mechanism tilts forwards or backwards according to the changes in the user's position, and the seat tilts independently of the backrest. The body is in a state of active balance when sitting on Mynt, which encourages it to continuously perform a series of movements of varying magnitude, whether at the home office, in a workspace or around the table in a meeting room. Mynt not only offers a new sitting experience, but also demonstrates that dynamic sitting has a positive impact on physical health and well-being. The movement of the chair can be reduced - for example, to sit around a dining table - by simply operating a lever located under the seat.

How sustainable is the Mynt chair? What proportion of it is made from recycled materials?

Mynt is made from a limited number of parts that can be replaced individually and are sourced exclusively from Europe. Mynt is made from 86% recycled materials and is 99% recyclable at the end of its life cycle. The V-Foam, which makes up the seat's padded base, is the result of a long collaboration between Vitra and BASF to develop the world's first polyurethane foam that can be recycled on a large scale.

Which Mynt parts can be replaced?

The seat covers and the castors and glides can be replaced by the users themselves and ordered individually here. For greater comfort, it is possible to order the seat and back cushions as a complete set, or just the individual covers. To keep Mynt looking its best, the covers can be dry cleaned. If the skates need to be replaced with wheels or vice versa, they can be replaced by the users themselves. However, the height of the seat will not be the same and the dimensions may no longer meet GS requirements. If these criteria are to be met, the gas cartridge should also be replaced, which must be done by qualified personnel.

How is Mynt delivered?

Mynt is delivered fully assembled in a polyethylene bag or, on request, in a cardboard box. In both cases, it is ready to use.

Erwan Bouroullec

Designer Erwan Bouroullec (born in 1976 in Quimper, France) is a graduate of the École nationale supérieure d'arts de Paris-Cergy (ENSAPC). After completing his studies in 1998, he joined the studio that his brother Ronan had founded in 1995. The two designers worked hand in hand for decades, forming an influential creative duo in the world of design. In 2023, Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec parted ways and will now each focus on their own projects. Erwan Bouroullec's studio is currently located in Paris, with a second workshop in Burgundy.

A meeting in 1999 with Rolf Fehlbaum, Chairman Emeritus of Vitra, marked the beginning of a long-term partnership with the manufacturer, which has led to the creation of numerous products and concepts for the home and workplace. This has enabled the Bouroullecs to extend their influence internationally and to collaborate with other major brands.
