FlowerPot VP9 wireless table lamp

The Flowerpot VP9 is a portable, rechargeable table lamp designed by the famous Danish designer Verner Panton in 1968 and produced by &Tradition. It is part of the iconic Flowerpot lamp family, which includes pendant lamps, table lamps and other variations, all inspired by the 1960s ‘Flower Power’ movement, a symbol of peace, love and freedom.

Design and features

The Flowerpot VP9 is a modern, portable version of the original Flowerpot table lamp (like the VP3). It stands out for its compact, lightweight design, with two distinctive hemispheres: a larger one that forms the upper shade and a smaller one below that diffuses the light downwards. This simple but clever geometry creates a soft, warm and glare-free light.

Made of moulded polycarbonate for the base and shade, with a steel dimmer, the VP9 is equipped with a built-in 3W LED light source (2700K, 104 lumens), dimmable in three levels (100%, 50%, 20%) via a touch button on the top. It is powered by a rechargeable battery via a magnetic USB cable (included, 200 cm long). A full charge takes approximately 8 hours and offers 10 hours of battery life at full intensity, making it ideal for flexible use, both indoors and outdoors (although it should be stored indoors).

It measures Ø 16 cm (lampshade) x H 29.5 cm and weighs approximately 0.8 kg, making it easy to move. It is available in a wide range of contemporary colours – from neutral shades such as beige grey or matt white to vibrant tones such as cobalt blue, vermilion red or signal green – reflecting Panton's love of bold colours.

Background and heritage

Designed in a period of cultural upheaval (1968, the year of student revolts and space exploration), the Flowerpot embodies the experimental spirit of Verner Panton, who sought to push the boundaries of traditional design by playing with shapes, materials and colours. This portable version, launched more recently by &Tradition, modernises the concept by adding mobility and LED technology, while retaining its retro-futuristic aesthetic.
