Obon tables
design Simone Bonanni, 2018
Obon is a collection of three tables inspired by an ancient, earthy, irregular material: terracotta. With its origins lost in the mists of time, terracotta is at the base of millenary archaeological finds all over the world. These precious discoveries are evidence of our timeless creativity and desire to leave a sign, admire and ritualize.
Simone Bonnani chose the material for its natural look and noble simplicity.
The curved, soft lines of the Obon tables break with our very strict, linear everyday environments. Obon tables are handcrafted, so each piece is unique. The terracotta is moulded, then the top is enamelled to make it waterproof. On the rest of the table, the terracotta is left in its raw state: the material's imperfections are therefore enhanced to form an integral part of the object's appeal. The slightly irregular lines, bumps and discreet colour variations are deliberately visible to communicate a hand-crafted feel and underline the object's raw attraction.
