Elephant Stool

design Sori Yanagi, 1954

The Elephant Stool is one of the most famous examples of Japanese post-war design. Its clear form and functionality are as compelling today as ever.

Suited for indoor spaces as well as balconies and gardens, the stackable plastic stool can even be used as portable picnic furniture.

Material Dyed-through polypropylene. Suitable for outdoor use. Special additives help to prevent colours from fading due to UV radiation. However, if the stool is exposed to sunlight for prolonged periods, the colour may change over time. We recommend limited exposure to sunlight.

Sori Yanagi was one of the most famous product designers in Japan. He played a role in Japanese modern design developed after World War 2 to the high-growth period in the Japanese economy. He is both a representative of the wholly Japanese modern designer and a full-blown modernist who merged simplicity and practicality with elements of traditional Japanese crafts.
