LUNGANGOLO storage unit
Achille Castiglioni, 1991

The Lungangolo column shelf was designed by Achille Castiglioni when he dreamed of the lost spaces of living spaces: all these areas where neither the body, nor the objects, nor even the attention is ever focused and which hardly exist – why not bring them to life with a beautiful design?

Thus was born Lungangolo, a versatile storage unit made up of four slender pillars with a square section supporting shelves at different heights. The structure is reinforced with a drawer and a panel. The position of the drawer and the removal of part of the support make it necessary to manufacture it in two versions, left and right.

Achille Castiglion

”I have always desired to do the opposite. Not because I have an anarchic behaviour, but because I think the fundamental basis of design consists in thinking the opposite”. Renowned Italian designer Achille Castiglioni (1918-2002) had a passion for re-designing, re-inventing and re-conceptualizing.

Traditional interior design objects would pass through his Milan-based studio and end up perfected. He always aimed at enhancing and glorifying the value of the design. Throughout his career he worked to raise design to an ever-higher level of synthesis - stripping design down to the very core and eliminating everything superfluous.

During his career Achille Castiglioni collaborated with many designers, among them Giancarlo Pozzi. Together they made Trio and Comodo in 1991.
