The In the Air chandelier designed by Douglas Mont borrows from two completely different aesthetics: the world of the classic chandelier on the one hand, with its star-shaped curved arms; and flying saucers on the other, with its luminescent UFO-shaped shades.

So it's both in our grandmothers' living room and in the kitsch universe of American comics and B-movies that we're encouraged to enter when we light up the room.

This double standard comes in two versions: one with three shades, the other with six, for larger rooms.

Douglas Mont

Nurtured by the imagery inspired in Jodorowsky by the cult science-fiction novel Dune, Douglas Mont is not American but French. His distant great-uncle, G.L. Rispal, was the founder in 1924 of the Parisian firm Rispal, which specialized in reasonably priced lighting fixtures and, after flourishing for decades with hundreds of references in its catalog, switched off in 1982. Douglas Mont has rekindled production in 2018 with a redesign of the 1950s bestsellers known as Formes Nouvelles, augmented by his own contemporary creations. Specializing in modular design in the form of evolving light sculptures for the outdoors, based between Auvergne and CĂ´te Vd'Azur and always with one foot in Paris, Douglas Mont signs his first collaboration with DCWĂ©ditions with In the Air.
