Lighting has a fundamental ability to sculpt the atmosphere of a space, painting shapes and shadows.

Whether it's the ambient glow of a ceiling light, the functional illumination of a table or floor lamp, or the decorative light that illuminates the immediate surroundings, the use of light brings welcoming comfort and warmth to a home.

Carl Hansen & Søn: the legacy of Danish design

For over a century, Carl Hansen & Søn has embodied Danish design excellence. Founded in 1908 by master cabinetmaker Carl Hansen, the family business, now run by his grandson Knud Erik Hansen, continues to uphold exceptional craftsmanship.

Based in Gelsted, Denmark, the brand has become the world's largest manufacturer of furniture designed by Hans J. Wegner, while collaborating with iconic figures in Scandinavian design such as Kaare Klint, Børge Mogensen, Ole Wanscher and Poul Kjærholm.

Every piece produced by Carl Hansen & Søn is the result of a subtle alliance between tradition, innovation and a commitment to sustainability.

An iconic collection of lighting fixtures

The Scandinavia Design website provides access to the entire Carl Hansen & Søn lighting collection, which showcases the richness of Scandinavian design through a series of iconic pieces, such as:

Opala: designed by Hans J. Wegner in 1973 for the Scandinavia Hotel in Copenhagen, this series includes table lamps, pendant lamps and floor lamps with a futuristic design and asymmetrical opal acrylic shades that diffuse a soft, pleasant light.

HJW37: a minimalist pendant lamp designed by Hans J. Wegner in 1962, characterised by its clean lines and timeless functionality.

Petal RF200: created by Rikke Frost, this modular table lamp combines wood and metal in an organic shape inspired by nature, offering nine different configurations to suit a variety of interiors.

BT Series: designed by Bonderup & Thorup in the 1960s and 70s, this series includes the No 1 BT1001, Calot BT1041 and Confetti BT1091 models, with bold geometric shapes and a functional aesthetic that is still relevant today.

EK61: designed by Esben Klint in 1961, this pendant lamp in mouth-blown opal glass with oak details is inspired by traditional Chinese lanterns, diffusing a soft, indirect light.

MO Series: created by Mads Odgård, this collection includes table lamps, pendant lamps, floor lamps and wall lamps in powder-coated steel, with clean lines and hemispherical shapes, offering natural and warm lighting.

Bubi HK20: designed by Henning Koppel in 1972, this sculptural and playful table lamp adds an artistic and original touch to any space.
