Mogens Kosh Bookcase Modular System B98 Mogens Kosh, 1944

Mogens Koch designed the modular shelving system for FDB Møbler in 1944. They quickly became one of the symbols of Nordic design, and today can be seen all over the world.

It has to be said that this simple, intelligent design embodies the best of Danish functionalism, since a myriad of different combinations are possible from a very small number of basic elements. Modules can be placed horizontally or vertically, free-standing or suspended, in columns or enfilades, singly or in groups, in kitchens as well as living rooms, bedrooms or offices.

Very Scandinavian too, with attractive assembly details highlighting the natural beauty of wood, making all frills unnecessary. Modules are available in three different depths: 20 cm, 28 cm and 32 cm.

Modules can be stacked upright or lying down, placed on the floor using podiums, or fixed to the wall using a fastening system. Please note that when stacking more than two units, it is advisable to fasten the units to the wall, even if they are placed on the floor.

Mogens Kosh

Architect and professor at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts Mogens Koch (1898-1992) made a name for himself as a furniture designer, responsible for such well-known classics as his modular shelving system (1928) and the folding chair (designed in 1933, produced from 1959).

Mogens Koch was employed by Kaare Klint until 1934, when he opened his own design studio. In his design office, the tasks were many and varied: furniture, new buildings, typefaces, silverware and textiles. The architect played an active role in the idealistic development work aimed at producing better, cheaper furniture for FDB's customers. So, although Mogens Koch's furniture fetches high prices at auction today, many pieces were designed for practical use and efficient production.

Among his most popular creations are the beautiful, sturdy shelf boxes. Designed in the 1940s, they are appreciated worldwide for their simplicity and countless combination possibilities. This is truly a piece of furniture that survives generation after generation.
