Air is a family of storage furniture characterized by its rattan cane inlays, which give a feeling of lightness and transparency to furniture that often seems heavy and difficult to place in the room. Air can be used as a freestanding room divider or placed against a wall, in homes, restaurants, lobbies and offices.

“I have been fascinated by woven rattan since my childhood, when I spent my time between Sweden and France,” explains Mathieu Gustafsson. “Paris had Thonet chairs in every bistro, and Stockholm had the classic Palmgren rattan bag from the 50s where you could see what was hidden inside.”

To reduce the bulk of these rooms, Mathieu plays on transparency. The sideboard can be equipped with interior lighting to amplify the sensation. Access holes also make it easy to plug in electrical appliances and various multimedia devices.

Mathieu Gustafsson

Mathieu Gustafsson has roots in both Paris and the Swedish province of Småland - the heart of the Swedish furniture industry. It was by observing the differences and similarities between these two cultures from a young age that Mathieu began to become interested in product design.

His creative process often starts from a defined need, a behavior or a technique, with the ambition to find a new angle of attack for the producer for whom he works. Professionally, Mathieu has training in graphics, cabinetmaking and furniture design.

Specializing in furniture for the contract market, Mathieu established and managed the design studio of Tengbom, one of the leading architectural firms in Sweden. Today he runs his own studio in Stockholm, with projects ranging from design objects to contract furniture to new sustainable materials for the manufacturing industry.
